TOOLS FOR THE DYSLEXIC:LEARNING TO NAVIGATE THROUGH A NON-DYSLEXIC WORLD WHEN YOU VIEW THE WORLD COMPLETELY DIFFERENTLY
—————————————
This is a sad truth of our educational system as many teachers will not work harder to help all of their students. Later on, I got a job working for a politician writing letters for him to constituents. It affects the way we communicate with others, the way we look at questions, following instructions and the way we think about things. I also attended a non-traditional school for my graduate degree:an online university that was perfectly fine with granting me extensions to finish courses and wanted students to e-mail or call professors taking as much time as they needed to argue any problem. I want you to understand that despite my learning disabilities and my difficulties in school, I still managed to find ways to deal with my dyslexia continuing to be a successful individual. Personally, I believe teachers will sometimes overlook dyslexia because it takes more energy out of their class schedules to help a student learn. As a biology major in college writing out DNA sequences, I regularly flipped the amino acids for others not only getting it completely incorrect, but it made my professors wonder how I could possibly continue with a degree in biology. Yes, it was incredibly frustrating, but I also learned how to deal with my dyslexic moments so I could speak and write correctly for him.
PUBLIC SPEAKING
—————————————
You should make it imperative in your mind so you can help yourself overcome the “verbal dyslexia”. Also, by thinking about the given sentence thoroughly then speaking the sentence slowly, I will convey the message in the correct fashion almost all of the time. Since dyslexics flip pronouns around and will say an inversion of what they mean to say, the simple task of thinking through a sentence or phrase will help to eliminate this embarrassing mistake. Let this be a lesson to you.
VERB AGREEMENTS
—————————————
If you find that you do this, you need to figure out a way to catch yourself so you do not convey an improper message about who you are. So, this previous sentence is an example of a “dyslexic” moment, and unfortunately, a great example of how you would demonstrate to the person you are speaking with that you do not understand verb agreement.
WRITING
—————————————
While speaking is difficult for dyslexics because we run the risk of verbally switching verbs or pronouns, writing is easier because we can catch any mistakes we have made. Make sure you check everything you write carefully. For dyslexics, writing is probably one of the best ways to communicate because one can go back and correct whatever they have written.
TAKING STANDARDIZED TESTS
—————————————
It wasn’t because I didn’t understand the material I was being tested on. It will help you develop the mindset for taking the given exam and will help you understand exactly how your instructor wants you to take the exam. e. Lack of understanding of feral cats by people in the community
D. None of the above
To underline key phrases, ask yourself, “What is the author of this test asking me?” Then, promptly answer the question you have asked yourself. Cats that are not spayed and neutered
B. As discussed previously, analyze where you go wrong in an exam. Underlining key phrases in standardized tests will help you organize your thoughts to answer the questions correctly and will also help you pick the appropriate answer. Next, look for a pattern. While all of the answers are correct essentially, the answer that BEST answers this question is A:cats that are not spayed and neutered.
INSTRUCTIONS
—————————————
Remember that learning how to live with dyslexia will be life long. When dealing with the flip flopping nature of verb agreements and pronoun usage while speaking or writing another person, the best thing to do is to quickly correct yourself and double check what you have written. That way, you can double and triple check everything you wrote, (and what they wrote), so you can make sure you are answering their questions in a professional and appropriate manner. You will constantly need to adjust your life to living with dyslexia, and will constantly need to analyze your life to figure out where you are having dyslexic moments. Having someone near you that can objectively look at the directions to help you may prove to be beneficial to you. Studying similar tests will help you get in the mindset of taking the given exam and understanding how the questions will be asked will only help you to succeed. Instructions are not difficult to follow provided that you take the appropriate steps you need to take to follow them.
